Are RX Bars keto friendly?
If you are like me, you are always on the go. Most of the time I don’t have time to sit down and have a well-balanced keto breakfast, lunch, or dinner. So, I was in search of the perfect on the go snack.
During my research, I stumbled upon RX Bars… but don’t be fooled by their simple ingredient list. Is there anything hiding, or are RX Bars keto friendly? I’ll answer this and give you some additional information for how I came up with my answer.
How are RX Bars made?
The RX Bars brand was created by some best friends who thought the protein bar market needed to have a no B.S. option that told you what was in it and made it simple and clean. They did this by putting the ingredients in your face on the front of the packaging.
Their product is super easy to understand since the ingredients for a single bar only include something like 3 egg whites, 2 dates, and 6 almonds.
They have a core set of ingredients that are found in all of their bars and add specific ingredients to give flavor.
What ingredients are in RX Bars?
Egg Whites
The reason for egg whites in RX Bars should be a no brainer… it is used for the protein side of things.
Dates
Dates are used in RX Bars to bind the ingredients together. These fruits are a very HIGH carbohydrate food, so keto dieters beware.
Nuts
Depending on their flavors RX Bars can have a mix of cashews, walnuts, peanuts, almonds, and pecans. Using the nuts also adds texture to the bars.
No B.S.
This is their mantra and it is awesome that they stick by it. They do not try to be anyone but themselves and it shows. Their simple approach to protein bars is clever and “No B.S.” being on every bar is an awesome way to show their brand voice.

The different RX Bar flavors will have different carb counts, but they have around 22 grams of carbs on average with a around 4-5 grams of fiber. This would net around 18 grams of net carbs. Here are a few of the flavors from above with their associated carb and fiber count.

No. This flavor has 23 grams of total carbohydrates with only 5 grams of fiber.

No. This flavor has 24 grams of total carbohydrates with only 5 grams of fiber.
Are RX Bars unhealthy for you?
The quick answer to this question is… no, they are not unhealthy for you. It depends on your own body but they may be unhealthy for someone that needs to restrict their sugar count, or if you are allergic to nuts. But, if none of those things affect you, they are generally healthy since they do not shove any chemicals or bad ingredients into their bars.
RX Bars nutritional facts
Let’s take a look at their nutrition facts for 1 Chocolate Sea Salt RX BAR, which is the best-selling variety:
210 calories, 9 grams fat, 2 grams saturated fat, 0mg cholesterol, 240mg sodium, 24 grams carbohydrate, 5 grams dietary fiber, 13 grams total sugars, 12 grams protein, 10% DV Iron, 10% DV Potassium, 4% DV Calcium
Initial thoughts: There is a decent amount of fat for a protein bar, but the protein is only at 12 grams. It has a very high carb count. There is also a decent amount of fiber, but not enough to counterbalance the 24 grams of carbohydrates.
Again, RX Bars are generally healthy, but this does not mean it is a good option for the keto diet. Keep reading to find out if I would recommend an RX Bar on a keto diet.

RX Bars are found just about everywhere. You can find them at your local grocery store, trader joes, Wholefoods, airports, Amazon, or directly on their website.
You can also find out the closest store near you that sells the RX Bars, so you don’t have to go on a wild goose chase to find one of these if you don’t shop online.

Are RX Bars the best option for the keto diet?
To answer the question of “Are RX Bars keto friendly?” I would say… it deserves a failing grade. This is nothing against how they make their bars since they are using great ingredients. This is simply a reflection of the carbohydrate, glycemic index, glycemic load, and lack of balancing dietary fiber to take down the dramatic hit on insulin levels in the body after eating a bar.
RX Bars are NOT keto friendly, unfortunately.
